I never seem to learn...don’t take extended breaks from training!!! Every time I take a break from running I end up having to deal with shin splints for the first month or two of running. I noticed my shins where starting to hurt after my long run on Saturday when I was doing 5 minutes of box jumps on Sunday at CrossFit. I was hoping with two days rest that I would feel better by this morning. I had such a great workout last night that I was excited to get up and do intervals this morning, unfortunately my shins where not.
Today’s interval run:
7 minute warm-up: 10 min pace
6 x 1 min at 7:30’s and 3 min rest at 10:00
5 minutes at 9:00 min pace
3 minute warm-down
Heart Rate during my intervals

I was able to get through my run, but not without pain. Thank god for my Zensah leg compression sleeves. If you run, I highly recommend compression socks and sleeves to help aid recovery.

Tonight is going to be a busy night because I have to get everything ready for my trip to the races. Tomorrow night I leave to go NHRA drag racing finals in Pomona. It's going to be four days of camping and racing. My father, brother-in-law, his friend and myself will be camping right in the parking lot. I will definitely have to watch my diet and run each morning because last year there where 18 inch corn dogs as far as the eye code see!

A few of the random things I need to remember to pack:
-ear plugs (for the cars and my father's snoring)
-kashi cereal
-zone bars
-ipod
-camera's
-running shorts
-sunglasses
-sleeping bag
-head lamp (good for seeing what I am bbqing)
-beer (lots...reminds me of the following song)

First of all, can I tell you how impressed I am at what great shape you are in? Seriously, my heart rate gets close to 180 (177ish) when I am running at a 9:13 pace. Wooo. So to see your 10:00 min pace your heart rate is 140 or below, I am super impressed!!!! I want to be able to get to that level one day. Very inspiring!
Second, have fun at the races! Sounds like you have a fun weekend planned! Make sure you drink lots of water to counteract all that beer. :P
Thanks for your comment.. You know I try to take it as a compliment, a year ago I highly doubt I would have received the same male response :) So I take it and RUN FAST AWAY!
I took 1 weeks off and I felt it yesterday, thankfully I don't have shin pain UGH!
OK off to check out your Giveaway and Blog..
I only get shin splints on a treadmill...so I never run on those. I have not started intervals yet!!! I'm behind training!!! Sounds like you're doing very well!!!
But I did run 6 miles this morning in 59:04. YAY!
Ugh, I've had shin splints turned stress fracture, it sucks. Hope the compression socks continue to work! Have a great trip!
